While we are still in a recession and the economic times continue to get even tougher, more of us own pets. The amount of money we’ll spend on them this year alone is roughly equivalent to Warren Buffett‘s total personal wealth.
- Total U.S. households owning a pet – 1988: 56%. 2009-2010: 62%, or 71,400,000 homes.
- Total U.S. pet industry expenditures – 2001: $28.5 billion, 2009: $45.5 billion (2010 estimated: $47.7 billion)
Let's face it no matter what our socio economic status is our pets are almost always living in upper middle class. When they're sick we take them immediately to the vet, when they're hungry we feed them, when they're bored we play with them, when we travel they travel (even if its to the sitter).... Pet lovers are the fastest growing population in the world!! So therefore it must really be a pet's world after all!!!
